WHEN A CROCODILE EATS THE SUN

“Quando un coccodrillo mangia il sole” è la storia di uno scrittore di origini inglesi e polacche, nato in Rhodesia Meridionale, attuale Zimbabwe, il quale si ritrova a fare i conti con una realtà molto forte.

Verso la fine degli anni ’90, dopo essersi recato con urgenza nel suo Paese natale a seguito di una grave malattia del padre, lo scrittore si scontra con una realtà politica a lui prima sconosciuta. Lo Zimbabwe vive una crisi politica ed economica su base razziale, fomentata e istigata da un dittatore, ancora oggi al potere, che conduce il popolo a una grave carestia.

Godwin conclude che il coccodrillo Robert Mugabe ha mangiato il sole, e insieme ad esso la vita di un intero Paese che poco fa era una delle più ricche ex-colonie britanniche.

“When a Crocodile Eats the Sun” is the history of an English and Polish Jewish ancestry writer, born in Southern Rodhesia, known today as Zimbabwe, that lives a hard time after returning to his home town.

At the end of the ‘90s Godwin goes through a political fact he ignored before, the serious economical crisis on racial basis Zimbabwe lives in that period, fueled and istigated by a self-proclaim for life dictator, nowadays still in power.

The writer infers the crocodile Robert Mugabe ate the sun and, at the same time, also the life of an whole country that some years ago was one of the richest of the previous British colonies.
